For your family
Babies: formula, bottle, diapers, diaper cream.
Kids: a small toy or a deck of cards, and a card with contact info in their pocket.
Pets: leash, muzzle if needed, 3 days of food, copy of the vaccination card.
Older adults: medications, glasses, hearing aids with batteries, list of medical conditions.
Foldable solar charger, optional, useful if the emergency lasts longer than 72 hours.
Weight rule. If you can't walk 30 minutes wearing it, it's too heavy. One per person, and kids carry a lighter version. Check it every 6 months: expiration dates, batteries, kids' clothing sizes.
Sources: FEMA / Ready.gov and American Red Cross. Educational material; it does not replace instructions from your local emergency authorities.
